DR. ARMEE HONG, VIOLIN

10411864_10154404703869838_3142057653519151229_nBorn in Seoul, South Korea, violinist Armee Hong began studying violin at the age of 14.  In spite of her relatively short study, she was accepted to Deokwon Art High school with scholarships.  Armee obtained her bachelor’s degree from Ewha Womans University in 2006.  During her high school and college years, Armee won the concerto competition and the chamber music competition and had made appearances at the important concert venues in Seoul such as Seoul Arts Center and Sejong Center for the Performing Arts.  Later Armee went to Jacobs School of Music, Indiana University Bloomington for her master’s degree as a merit award recipient, where she is currently pursuing her doctoral degree under the guidance of Professor Mark Kaplan. Since 2007, Armee has also been studying baroque violin along with modern violin with Professor Stanley Ritchie who is regarded as one of the world’s leading exponents of baroque and classical violin. She attended numerous music festivals and master classes throughout Europe and Asia and appeared as a soloist in many concerts. Among them, Armee was selected to Canton International Summer Music Orchestra Academy 2006 as a first violin section player and has toured with Pianist Martha Argerich, under the baton of Maestro Charles Detoit. Armee also attended Great Mountain Music Festival, Pyungchang, Korea in 2012 as a scholarship recipient. Armee moved to NYC in 2012, since then she has been actively teaching and performing in NJ- NY area.  She is the concertmaster of Underwood Foundation Orchestra, and the assistant concertmaster of New York Classical Symphony Orchestra, a member of New York Classical Camerata.  Armee has been named as a faculty member of Manhattan Music Festival since 2014.  As an active recitalist, Armee gave her baroque violin debut recital in Seoul, Korea in 2012 and she made a recital debut at Bruno Walter Auditorium, Lincoln Center in March, 2015, and will have her Carnegie hall debut in July, 2016.  Armee is the vice president and string faculty of New York School of Music and Arts, the vice president of Leo Management,  the co-director of New York Classical Youth Orchestra and the chief editor of classic music magazine “La Musica”.
